In college, I spent some time on Lookout Mountain, Alabama working as a counselor at Alpine Camp for Boys. Ok, maybe I spent a little more time than I should have (a cumulative total of close to one year of my life), or maybe not.
But I remember sitting in an office building the first summer I moved to Memphis, and just grieving the fact that I couldn’t be there. That gut wrenching feeling has stuck in my crawl and I know many others, for a while now.
Today, We dropped our oldest daughter Lucy off at camp at for her first time. I had a few moments to myself to steal away at lunch and paint the most beautiful wildflowers I’ve seen in a while. That’s Lookout Mountain. The natural environment, the vibe, and most importantly, the friends. They just don’t grow quite like that anywhere else. Simply beautiful.
