Poppies at the Old Forest at Overton Park

I went out with the Memphis Urban Sketchers to the Old Forest at Overton Park today.

It was a beautiful spring day today, and I didn’t realize how beautiful the place we sketched would be. Fellow sketcher Martha Kelly lead us down a trail to one of her “happy places” to a spot that was covered with blooming celandine poppies. My jaw dropped at what looked like a field of yellow in the middle of the woods.

There were also, according the the wildflower enthusiasts, prairie trillium, Jacob’s ladder and lots of other colorful wildflowers around. Yay spring!
