Today was a fun time out at Overton Park. I joined the Memphis Urban Sketchers out on the Greensward amidst lawn parking protesters, rugby players, kite flyers, kids and general park goers.

My goal was to capture the scene in as much color as possible. I used my new “small” setup which consists of a 12″x15″ aluminum portfolio sketchbook, a cigar box with my tempera and acrylic paint, a few pencil bags, a water bottle, my little Coleman camping chair and a few other trinkets—that all fit nicely in my backpack (all but the chair).

13 1/2″x10″ tempera, acrylic and oil pastel on watercolor paper.
